Evaluation Process

The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science will evaluate applications in a multi-phase merit review process. Those judged most promising by the review panel and Program Secretariat will be invited to submit full proposals.

The application schedule of the program involves several phases. The competition requires the mandatory submission of a pre-proposal: all relevant documents relating to project pre-proposals should be uploaded on the program website by March 16th 2023. For further information, applicants should visit the program’s submission portal for the program (www.uaerep.ae). Once evaluated by a Technical Committee, a short list of selected candidates will be invited to submit their full proposals. The last date for submission of the completed final research project is midnight (GMT) on August 24th 2023. The winners of the grant awards will be announced in January 2024.

The program actively seeks the participation of research and scientific institutions worldwide. The technical committee will evaluate all proposals strictly on the basis of merit and scientific potential.

Review Committee

Following the initial submission of pre-proposals, the Technical Committee will play a critical role in assessing the merits of each application and narrowing the field down to the final short-listed proposals. They will ensure that selected pre-proposals will address the following criteria: enhancing the level of research and innovation through increased research activity and funding, including attracting new talent to the field, while leveraging program funding from participating entities; advancing scientific understanding of rainfall enhancement through new knowledge of cloud formation, precipitation production, and other relevant physical processes;  advancing state-of-the-art rainfall enhancement practices and operations by making experimental data available to researchers and encouraging the analysis of that data through the newest techniques; and enhancing and further developing capacity in the field both locally and globally by developing local and regional capacities while spurring global research collaborations in the region.
